Prior to my middle school time, my life was always surrounded by Miyazaki’s films and those film-related products. Now, I called that influence, Miyazaki Symptom. I watched Miyazaki’s most recent film, Ponyo. I heart it.
Compared to most CG films, Ponyo was all animated by hand. 170,000 watercolor drawings in a half year by 70 staff members. If you look at the dvd’s bonus track,you will see almost full episode watercolor hand-drawing story boards by Miyazaki. The most exciting point for me is the depiction of waves. They look like blueberry jello with expression. In fact, Miyazaki turned them into huge rushing fish “Suigyo” (water fish). They can pile up and even stop in certain positions.
